In a previous article I spoke about how time is running out in regards to Gen Z. Time flys, and soon my generation will all be “running the world”. My contention is that those in my generation will be far from fit to handle and overcome even minor challenges.
We are the most spoiled generation to ever live, yet we are also the most hopeless. Many in my generation don’t believe that the future will be better than the present, in fact, they believe it will be worse. So why try? Perhaps Tyler Durden was right when he said, “We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.” The only difference is that there are lots of wars, a potential greater depression, and an ever-increasing lack of freedom. We have all been raised on television, YouTube, and videogames. The movies we watched slowly turned from action movies about admirable heroes to movies about figures in hopeless worlds. The TV told us to fear everything, and videogames wasted our time.
When we weren’t surrounded by screens we were sent off to school, 6-7 hours a day, 5 days a week. To do what exactly? Well, to do what we are told while we sit in silence. Did we learn anything truly useful? No, and everyone secretly knows this fact. We were told lie after lie about life, causing many in my generation to believe that all that exists is essentially enslavement in one form or another.
I spoke about what parents can do to prevent their children from being indoctrinated and enslaved, but what can the young men in my generation do?
Develop a moral code. The most dangerous people in the world are not necessarily immoral people. It is the amoral people which inflict the most damage in the world. Every young man should sit down and figure out what he believes in. He should know what he will and will not allow himself to do. A moral code isn’t just a code of conduct, it is a compass which can guide you throughout life. When we reach the end of our lives it will not be the money or possessions we have which will bring us peace, but the people we know and the good we did.
Find your own path. Nearly every path which the world has laid out for us can lead to our demise. College, the military, a dead-end job, or an associates degree are all fantastic scams. When we go to college we are merely extending our time in the womb, except now we can dive head-first into hedonism. By joining the military we are signing our lives away to people that hate us. We are a pawn in their game. Our death results in their gain. Time and time again people choose to pursue an associates degree in hopes that they will become a much more attractive hire. Though, time and time again these people slowly realize that it's all for nought. So what should be done instead? The young men of my generation must find ways to obtain useful skills. These skills can range from learning poker, a second language, EMT, ranching, building trades, brazilian jiu-jitsu, motorcycle racing, skeet shooting…the list goes on and on. In our world of inauthenticity we must strive to gain authentic, useful skills to make us better, more competent men.
Stay away from things which can entrap you. Months ago, my father told me to not get trapped in “The Doom Loop”. “The Doom Loop” consists of trapping yourself in a dangerous finincial spiral. More specifically, “The Doom Loop” consists of renting an apartment, then getting a job which pays just enough to allow one to pay the bills, groceries… Young men tend to want to get out of the house and get their own place. There isn’t anything wrong with seperating yourself from your parent, but it simply doesn’t make any sense to spend money on a place to live (at least for a little while). Not only is the cost of rent going up everywhere, but it’s also very difficult for any young man to find work that would pay well enough to permit him to pay for housing. It would do young men good to stay away from this trap.
